Course Description:
Gamification is the application of digital game design techniques to non-game problems, such as business and social impact challenges. Video games are the dominant entertainment form of our time because they are powerful tools for motivating behavior. Effective games leverage both psychology and technology, in ways that can be applied outside the immersive environments of games themselves. Gamification as a business practice has exploded over the past two years. Organizations are applying it in areas such as marketing, human resources, productivity enhancement, sustainability, training, health and wellness, innovation, and customer engagement. Game thinking means more than just dropping in badges and leaderboards; it requires a thoughtful understanding of motivation and design techniques. This course examines the mechanisms of gamification and provides an understanding of its effective use.

A great course, and applicable in a wide range of domains (the focus was mainly on business, but I've learned a lot as an educator, too!). I especially appreciated the choice of texts and resources given by prof. Werbach to further the knowledge given in the course. No time was wasted, lectures were packed with informations and quizzes didn't let one get bored. Assignment was a bit robust but provided hands-on experience with the equired skillset and knowledge. Highly recommended!

The best MOOC I have experienced. Professor Werbach is an excellent instructor. The information is valuable and the examples are understandable. I feel like I learned more from this class than all others I have tried. I did not finish the class but only because that was not my goal. I completed my goal of learning what gamification is and what it is not. The only assignment I did not do was the final paper because the subject did not interest me but overall the concepts and ideas were very helpful and I would take it again if I had the time.
